SAN FRANCISCO—Amkor Technology Inc. President and Chief Operating Officer Ken Joyce will assume the role of CEO of the company effective Oct. 1, Amkor said Monday (June 29).

Joyce will replace as CEO James Kim, Amkor's founder, the company said. Kim, who is also chairman of the company's board of director, will become executive chairman of the board after Oct. 1, Amkor (Chandler, Ariz.) said.

Joyce, who will also retain the title of president, will join Amkor's board of directors on Oct. 1, the company said.

"I have great confidence in Ken and believe this is the right time to make this transition as we continue the succession planning begun more than a year ago when Ken became president and COO," Kim said in a statement.

Joyce, 62, joined Amkor in 1997. He spent eight years as executive vice president and chief financial officer and has also held the role of chief administrative officer. Prior to joining Amkor, Joyce held executive positions at Selas Fluid Processing Corp. and Selas Corp. of America.
